Devarampadu Village to be developed as tourist attraction

Ongole: The Ongole MLA, Damacharla Janardhana Rao announced that the Salt Satyagraha camp and Vijayasthupam area in the Devarampadu village will be developed as a tourist attraction.

He participated in the 147th birth anniversary celebrations of the former chief minister and freedom fighter Tanguturi Prakasam.

Janardhana Rao said that though Prakasam born into a poor family, his hard work and commitment paid him great as he became a successful barrister. 

But spending all of the assets for the country, he participated in the freedom fight selflessly, he praised the great leader.

He remembered that Prakasam Pantulu and Babu Rajendraprasad participated in the Salt Satyagraham in Devarampadu village in 1935 and erected the Vijayasthupam after the British abolished the salt tax due to the movement against it.

The MLA said that a compound wall around Vijayasthupam was already constructed with Rs 5 lakh expenditure. 

He announced that the two kilometer road from Devarampadu village to the Vijayasthupam will be converted into BT road and a Smritivanam will be developed in memory of Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu in the area.

He said that a museum explaining the life events and containing the memorabilia of Prakasam will be established along with a bronze statue in future. 

He also promised to provide boating in the Devarampadu tank to attract more tourists to the place. 

He announced that he will discuss with the chief minister to provide a grant to the Devarampadu for development.

The SC Corporation chairman, Jupudi Prabhakar, AJC D Markandeyulu, DRDA PD Murali, DWMA PD Venkateswarlu, housing PD Sainath, Sarvasikhsha Abhiyan PO Venkateswarlu and others also participated in the programme.
