112 cr allocated for Narayanapuram project in Srikakulam

Srikakulam: The state government granted administrative sanction for spending Rs 112 crore funds for modernisation of Narayanapuram project. The project was constructed across Nagavali river at Rangarayapuram in Santhakaviti mandal 40 years ago. 

Total ayucut area under the project is 57,033 acres in five mandals through right and left main canals (RMC) and (LMC). The project was damaged and water is not reaching the tail end areas during kharif. To overcome it, modernisation works were proposed at an estimated cost of Rs 138 crore and proposals were sent for approval of the Central Water Commission (CWC). 

After careful examination, the CWC approved for the design of the project modernisation. Subsequently, the state government issued administrative sanction for Rs 112 crore.

After fulfillment of all administrative formalities, they will invite tenders for woks, superintending engineer of Srikakulam irrigation circle M Surendar Reddy told The Hans India. Works are likely to start by January  next year and they will try to complete half of the works by 2019 kharif season, the superintending engineer added.
