Subhadra Vahini for security of women passengers commissioned
Visakhapatnam: Divisional Railway Manager of Waltair Mukul Saran Mathur apprised that during 2018-19 from April till date the division handled originating traffic of 19.5 million tonnes and the division carried over 12.5 million passengers so far in the present fiscal. The gross earnings of the division were Rs 2,456 crore which is 7.6 per cent higher than the last year, the DRM said.
The Independence Day was celebrated by Waltair division on Wednesday. The DRM unfurled the National Flag and took Rashtriya Salami presented by contingent of Railway Protection Force, Scouts and Guides and Civil Defence.
Speaking on the occasion, the DRM explained the achievements of the division. As a part of women empowerment for the first time ‘Subhadra Vahini’ an exclusive team of women for the security of women passengers has been commissioned and as many as 120 children and five distressed women have been rescued at different stations in the division, Mathur said.
The Visakhapatnam Railway Station would be developed with more new amenities under station development plan at an investment of Rs 10 crore, he added On the occasion of the Independence Day, Secretary, Madhuri Kasipati of East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO), along with members, distributed health drinks, fruits to patients at the railway main hospital and also donated RO water purifier to the railway hospital canteen.
