Permanent faculty in IIITs: Ganta

Kadapa: Describing students as nation’s property, Human Resources Development Minister Ganta Srinivas Rao has called upon the students to play a crucial role in making the country strong.

Participating as a chief guest for the fourth convocation of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) at RK Valley in Idupulapaya of Vempalle mandal on Friday, the Minister stated students should serve the nation after acquiring degrees.

To promote quality education in the state, the government has been spending 15 per cent for education from the total budget. The Minister mentioned that there were only 3 IIITs in the combined state and two in truncated Andhra Pradesh.

Apart from IIITs at Idupulapaya and Nuzvid, the IIITs were set up at Srikakulam and Ongole. He pointed out that 65 per cent girls from government schools are pursuing education in IIITs. The Minister mentioned the government took a policy decision to appoint permanent faculty in all IIITs. 

Marketing Minister C Adinarayana Reddy said government has been spending lakhs of rupees on each student, who is pursuing education in IIITs, for providing highly sophisticated facilities compared to other educational institutions. 

On the occasion, Ganta presented gold medals to 12 students. IIIT Vice-Chancellor Prof D Raja Reddy, Director Dr S Amarendra Kumar, Vice-President Dr Ramachandra Raju, District Collector Ch Hari Kiran and other officials were present. Earlier, Ganta speaking to the media said the government is launching an innovative scheme ‘Gnana Bheri’ in all universities on Saturday. 

Under the scheme, the government will recognise and encourage the talented students in higher education. On the occasion, he released ‘Gnana Bheri’ poster along with Marketing Minister.
