Architect of national flag Pingali Venkayya's 130th birth anniversary was celebrated here on Thursday, under the aegis of Forum for Better Bapatla.His statue near railway station was garlanded and rich tributes were paid to the great leader.
AVV Prasad said that athletes wrap it around themselves after winning honour for their country and added that martyrs come home wrapped in it after giving their life for the country.
He said in both instances, the flag represents the invisible thread that binds together millions. He said this wonderful flag was designed by a Telugu man Pingali Venkayya and who was a legendary freedom-fighter, who led miserable life in the last days of his life.
The Forum secretary P C Sai Babu, AVV High School teachers Umamaheswara Rao, Nageswara Rao and students participated.
Meanwhile, Brahmin leaders under the banner of AP Brahmin Welfare Association paid tributes to Pingali Venkaiah on the occasion of his 141st birth anniversary at a programme held in Guntur on Thursday.
Speaking on this occasion, AP Brahmin Welfare Association general secretary Siripurapu Sridhar urged the youth to draw inspiration from Pingali.
