Cops foil rally by unemployed, arrest in Vijayawada

Vijayawada: About 70 students belonging to various student and youth organisations were arrested by the city police when the former participated in ‘Chalo Vijayawada’ protest at Dharna Chowk here on Wednesday.

Earlier, the leaders and students belonging to Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), All India Youth Federation (AIYF) and Unemployed Youth Organisation took out a protest rally from Vijayawada Railway Station to Dharna Chowk, demanding that the government fill about 2.12 lakh vacant posts in various departments across the state. 

After reaching Dharna Chowk, the agitators participated in a protest for release of notifications for APPSC, DSC and Panchayat Secretary posts. 

They wanted unemployment dole of Rs 2,000 to every unemployed youth.

Speaking on the occasion, PDF MLC Boddu Nageswara Rao criticised Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for ignoring the promises given to the unemployed youth.

Later, the protesters started their rally to the CM Camp office. 

The police intervened and arrested them and were taken to various police stations and later released.

DYFI leaders G Ramanna, M Satyanarayana, Surya Rao, T Praveen, AIYF leaders Lenin Babu, and other 60 students and leaders were arrested by the police.
