Kingpin of gang cheating Patients held

  • Posing as Ayurvedic doctor, GV Kumar collected Rs 20,000 to Rs 2 lakh from victims 
  • Gang deceived people by handing over fake medicines made from medicinal pastes

Tirupati: A gang leader, who has been cheating people for the last five years in the guise of Ayurvedic doctor, were arrested by Central Crime Station (CCS) police on Saturday. 

The gang has been trapping the patients coming to Sri Venkateswara Ayurvedic Hospital in Tirupati, saying to them that a good Ayurvedic doctor GV Kumar has brought medicines from Himalayas and with those medicines several patients have recovered within 15 days. 

They used to convince victims and take phone numbers and addresses from them. Later, they used to visit their houses and ask them to bring several items like Cardamom, Badam, Gingelly oil etc., and made oil with them. 

Saying that some other medicines have to be mixed in that oil which are available at Sri Siddi Vinayaka Ayurveda medical shop at Reddy & Reddy Colony in Tirupati. 

At the medical shop, someone will introduce the gang leader as doctor and depending on the status of the patient, he charges Rs 30,000 to Rs 2 lakh for the medicines made up of medicinal pastes. If any patient wants to quick relief, then they have to pay Rs 1 lakh more. 

Based on a tip-off, the police arrested the gang leader GV Kumar. Tirupati CCS police have already nabbed two more persons in the gang and search was on for five more culprits. 

They have seized fake medicines, fake receipts and identity cards from the accused, said CCS DSP R Ravi Sankar Reddy.
