Alluri Seetharama Raju believed education is key to tribal development: Parkasam District Collector

Ongole: The ideology of Alluri Seetharama Raju is inspirational to everyone, said Parkasam District Collector Vadarevu Vinay Chand.

He participated in the 122nd birth anniversary celebrations of Alluri organised by the Tribal Welfare Department in the CPO Conference Hall at Collectorate on Wednesday.

The Collector remembered Alluri as the hero who fought with the British for the rights of tribal people. He said that Seetharama Raju was a visionary and fought for the many issues that were struggling the people in Manyam at that time. 

He said that the Manyam hero believed that education helps the development of the tribals and encouraged it. As the British banned the predominant tribes in 1882, the Collector said, Alluri was the man who fought for the freedom and welfare of the locals at that time.

The Collector informed that there are around 3,600 tribal hamlets in the Paderu Agency with 40 to 500 families in each of them. 

He said that the state government is taking up various development activities for the tribals. In Prakasam district, the Collector said that CC roads and BT roads are being laid to connect the tribal hamlets with Rs 20 crore budget under MGNREGS.

He said that under Tribal Forest Rights Act, 697 tribals were given pattas for the land. He also announced that the compensation under the SC/ST Atrocities Act is also being issued fast in the district.
