Achieve micro irrigation targets by month-end: Collector

Ongole: Prakasam District Collector Vadarevu Vinaychand ordered the micro irrigation project officials and representatives of the companies to achieve the target of 22,000 hectares by month-end at any cost. He conducted a meeting with them at Collectorate on Thursday and reviewed the progress as per the mandals and the companies participating in the scheme.

After the review, the Collector said that the department had brought only 12,105 hectares into the micro irrigation as against the targeted area of 22,000 hectares. He said that though six companies were working well in the district, the non-cooperation of the remaining 16 companies forced the district to struggle for achieving the target. He expressed dissatisfaction over the failure of officials though the government had been giving 90 percent subsidy to the farmers in the district on par with the Rayalaseema farmers.

The Collector ordered the APMIP project director, Ravindrababu to issue show cause notices to the companies and seek explanations for their failure. He also warned the MIAOs that action would be taken against them if they didn’t improve their work and achieve targets in the fixed time. He announced that every morning, a teleconference would be organised to review the status of the micro irrigation project in the district from now.
