Premature baby survives all odds
Vijayawada: A tiny newborn baby weighing just 450 grams was discharged after a four-and-a-half- month’s treatment at the Rainbow Children’s Hospital here. Addressing the media persons here on Wednesday, hospital director Dr Dinesh Kumar Chirla revealed the astonishing journey of the tiny baby.
He said that Rama Sri Satya (mother of child) had a 24 week pregnancy and was suffering from complications related to pregnancy. She had a history of abortion of previous pregnancy and had no children.
On September 25, 2017 she was admitted to the hospital and she delivered a baby boy on September 27. The baby weight was just 450 grams. For survival, it requires neonatal intensive care of the best standards for a long duration. The hospital team took up the challenge to save the child. After rigorous treatment they could save the baby, which was a rare clinical milestone, claimed the doctors.
The boy achieved normal weight of 2,200 grams and was discharged, said Dinesh Kumar. Rainbow Hospital provided discount on the treatment and helped them to mobilise funds from CM Relief Fund and ESI. Consultant paediatrician Vamsi Sivarama Raju, Dr Uma Mikkilineni, Dr Ram Prasad, general manager Raj Mohan Ramaswamy and the team of doctors were present.
