Sankara Eye Foundation celebrates a journey of two million smiles in India through completion of free eye surgeries
Bangalore, 13th February 2019: Sankara Eye Foundation, one of the largest eye care providers in India and the world celebrated the completion of its two million free eye surgeries. The occasion was graced by the trustee Padma Shri Dr. RV Ramani, Founder & Managing Trustee, Sankara Eye Foundation and other donors like Dr. Dayananda Pai, Chairman Century Group, Mr. R. A Sankara Narayanan, Former MD & CEO Canara Bank, Mr. CK Venkataraman, MD, Titan and Mr. Raghunath Subramanian, Non-Executive Chairman, UIPath India for their contribution in achieving the milestone with the vision of eradicating curable blindness in India.
As a part of this celebration, 30 patients treated at Sankara eye hospital were felicitated who were part of this journey. The patients expressed their gratitude toward the doctors and the foundation for giving them their ray of light and for spreading awareness throughout their region.
Padma Shri Dr. RV Ramani, Founder & Managing Trustee, Sankara Eye Foundation said, "I am delighted to see this moment. It was our vision and mission to reach out to the rural poor and provide them free quality eye care. In India, more than 55 million people are visually impaired. Out of which 80% of them can be treated. Through our awareness programs, we have reached this far to spread knowledge to some parts of India on curable eye diseases. We look forward to spread our reach as much as possible over the years across India and help the people in need."
