Passing scores of schools in Coimbatore soar

COIMBATORE: Ranking 14th in the state, Coimbatore district has scored 96.44% pass in Class X board exams. In 2018, the district had scored 95.86% and was ranked 15th in the state. This year, it obtained a rank one position higher than that in last year. While boys in the district scored 95.46%, girls topped it off by scoring 98.31% pass rate. The number of schools which have scored 100% results have also improved from last year.

Government school teachers said that it had become mandatory for monthly tests to be conducted for the students. By this, the portion which was covered in each month would be revised by the end of that month, fostering better performance by students in exams.

According to records, 39 government schools had scored 100% pass last year, while 41 government schools scored 100% this year. Correspondingly, 163 matriculation schools had scored 100% pass last year, and 195 matriculation schools scored 100% this year. Last year, only two corporation schools had scored 100%, and this year, the figures have improved to five corporation schools scoring 100% results.

Among the four educational districts in Coimbatore, S S Kulam came first with 97.30% pass, Coimbatore city came second with 96.38% pass, Perur came third with 96.10% pass and Pollachi came fourth with 95.61% pass.

R Murugan, the chief education officer of Coimbatore said that as the district has progressed this year, steps would be taken to improve it further in the coming years. "We would identify schools which are weak in academics and would conduct special coaching classes. We would also offer special classes to students who are weak in particular subjects," he said.
