NSA Slapped Against Dr. Kafeel Khan For Remarks At Anti-CAA Protest

Lucknow: Suspended paediatrician, Dr. Kafeel Khan was arrested under provisions of the National Security Act (NSA) for his alleged inflammatory remarks made at an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) protest at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) on December 12, 2019, according to media reports. Dr Khan was arrested in Mumbai on January 29 where he was scheduled to appear at a Shaheen Bagh-like protest against CAA being staged by women since January 29.

Dr. Kafeel Khan was a paediatrician at the BRD Medical College Hospital in Gorakhpur, before his suspension. He has claimed that he is being harassed by the UP government for speaking out the truth with regard to the government hospital in Gorakhpur.

Dr. Kafeel Khan was granted bail on Monday after furnishing a bail bond of Rs 60,000. The bail was granted on the condition that he would not repeat the crime. He was held when he was scheduled to visit the Shaheen Bagh-like protests on January 29 where women protesters had started an indefinite stir against the CAA.

A case was registered against Dr. Khan for promoting enmity between different religions. Following his arrest in Mumbai, Dr Kafeel Khan was brought to Aligarh by the UP Police. Subsequently, he was moved to the district jail in Mathura.
