No shortage of Urea, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda replies to Vijayasai Reddy in Rajya Sabha

Union Minister for Agriculture, DV Shri. Sadananda Gowda answered a question asked by MP Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Sadananda Gowda said the state would need 15.50 lakh metric tonnes of urea in 2017-18 while 14.09 lakh metric tonnes were sold. It is estimated that 16.70 lakh metric tonnes of urea will be required in 2018-19 and 14.18 lakh metric tonnes have been sold.

It is estimated that 17.50 lakh metric tonnes of urea will be required in 2019-20. The Department of Agriculture, Cooperatives and Farmers' Welfare, in consultation with all States before the start of the crop season, said that the state would prepare estimates for how much urea and fertilizer are needed in that state.

The minister also revealed that the monthly fertilizer requirement is also being assessed once these estimates are completed. Sadananda Gowda said the fertilizer and imported fertilizers would be supplied to the respective states as per the estimates.
