Skeletal remains of children found at hospital in Muzaffarpur

NEW DELHI: Behind the compound of a hospital in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, the remains of human skeletons have been discovered. At least 108 children have died due to the encephalitis syndrome (AES) or Japanese encephalitis.

Sources in Muzaffarpur, have posted pictures of deformed human bones and broken skull fragments which are lying behind the compound of Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH).

SKMCH medical superintendent SK Shahi had said by commenting over the issue that, the post-mortem department of the hospital could have disposed the skeletal remains. He had also admitted that it should be done with a more "humane approach".

An investigation team had visited the spot where the human skeletal remains were spotted.

However, as the hospital has been criticised severely after 108 patients who have been suffering from AES and died during the treatment. The discovery of skeletons has taken another blow to the hospital.

According to official data, it has been suggested that, at least 128 children have died due to AES, which has been causing brain fever or Chamki, in Muzaffarpur district. Overall, more than 140 children have died in Bihar.
