Three terrorists neutralised in an encounter with security forces at Turkwangam area of Shopian, today

Srinagar: In what is seen as another feather in the cap, security forces eliminated three terrorists in a joint operation in the early hours of Tuesday. Among the three terrorists was a top Hizbul commander. The news agency, ANI reported that a search operation is underway in Shopian.

Over the past few weeks security forces have neutralised more than 15 well-trained terrorists mostly in and around Shopian in the Valley. Pakistan has been steadily pushing well trained terrorists across the border in an attempt to up the ante. However security forces have successfully thwarted attempts of terrorists to sneak into Indian territory across the Line of Control (LoC).

South Kashmir has been the theatre of terrorist activity over the past few months with Pakistan desperately attempting to stage terrorist attacks in the Valley. The desperation on the part of Pakistani trained terrorists intensified after the revocation of Article 370 in August last year, following which the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir was divided into two union territories of Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Security forces have been successful in eliminating more than 15 highly motivated and well-trained terrorists in recent days, through elaborate planning, making sure that there are no collateral damages. In each case, intensive combing and cordoning led to successful elimination of terrorists and seizure of arms and ammunition.

Security forces were also successful in eliminating a high-ranking terrorist and a nephew of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) founder, Masood Azhar.
