The sit-in protest at the ITO intersection in the national capital, continued through the night. The police have detained many of the protesters in trying to move them from the site.
On Thursday, the man fired a pistol at the students who were protesting against CAA near Jamia Millia Islamia University. Waving the pistol, he shouted, "yeh lo aazadi".
The Delhi police came under flak for their reaction in the incident. Eyewitnesses, including journalists and students blamed the police saying they stood rooted to the ground like mute spectators. The incident triggered protests against police inaction. Some demonstrators were forcibly shifted from the scene.
The police, on their part, said that the incident took place too fast for them to react. It happened in a split-second, Delhi police are reported to have said.
