NEW DELHI: On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) gave a clean chit to the patriarch of the Samajwadi Party Mulayam Singh Yadav and his son Akhilesh Yadav in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

The Supreme Court was informed by the CBI that it did not find any evidence to register a Regular Case (RC) against the father-son duo.

In its affidavit to SC, the investigative agency said that the case against the SP leaders was closed in August 2013 as no evidence was found against them.

Vishwanath Chaturvedi had filed the petition in the Supreme Court and asked for direct CBI probe to take action against the Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav and his wife Dimple Yadav and younger son Prateek under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

The family was accused of acquiring unknown assets by "misuse" of power.

CBI was asked by the top court to file a report on March 25 this year. However, Akhilesh Yadav and Mulayam Singh both have been cleared from the case by the CBI.
