Delhi Violence: Court To Hear Tahir Hussain's Anticipatory Bail Plea Today
New Delhi: District and Sessions Judge SK Jain will hear at 12.30 pm on Thursday, the anticipatory bail plea of suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain filed on Tuesday. The former AAP leader from Khajuri Khas area of Karawal Nagar in North East Delhi and his supporters were accused of being involved in the violence which scarred the national capital from February 23 to late February 25. Hussain also stands accused in the kidnapping and murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) official, Ankit Sharma.
Tahir Hussain went absconding as media outlets aired visuals of his house stockpiled with weapons including bricks, stones, petrol bombs and slingshots prepared to target passers-by. The former AAP corporator's house was described by TV channels as a riot factory.
The deceased IB staffer Ankit Sharma's father, Ravinder Kumar, filed a complaint with the Delhi police accusing the AAP leader and his men of kidnapping and murdering his son during the violence which rocked North East Delhi. Sharma's body was later found in a drain a short distance away.
Tahir Hussain claimed in several TV interviews that he himself was a victim of the violence which scarred North East Delhi including Khajuri Khas area. Hussain's anticipatory bail plea is also reported to be along these lines of defence.
Delhi Police are said to be viewing Tahir Hussain's role as a critical one. They hope to piece together a part of what is seen by many as a conspiracy behind the Delhi riots through his interrogation.
