Delhi Riots: People Who Helped Tahir Hussain Evade Cops Under Scanner

New Delhi: Police on Friday were granted 7-day custody of suspended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor, Tahir Hussain by a Delhi court. The former AAP leader is accused in the alleged murder of Intelligence Bureau (IB) officer Ankit Sharma, during the violence which scarred North East Delhi from late February 23 to 25.

Tahir Hussain was on the run and had switched off his phone, according to the police. He was reportedly using another phone, but police have not been able to find any of the phones he was said to be using.

Media reports quote police sources as saying on Saturday, that 3 to 4 people in the area of Mustafabad had helped Tahir Hussain hide during the violent incidents in the Chand Bagh area.

Police are said to be actively looking at those who helped Tahir Hussain hide during the violence and are said to be calling in those individuals to join the probe. The Delhi Crime Branch is likely to call them in for inquiry.

North East Delhi witnessed 3 days of violence in which 53 people were killed and more 200 others sustained injuries. Among the dead are Delhi Police constable Rattan Lal and Intelligence Bureau (IB) staffer, Ankit Sharma.
