Delhi Results: Chidambaram Draws Flak From Pranab's Daughter Over Reaction To AAP Win
Congress leader and former President, Pranab Mukherjee's daughter, Sharmistha Mukherjee flayed senior Congress leader and former finance minister, P. Chidambaram, over his tweet hailing the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) victory saying that it set a precedent for other states. Chidambaram's post claimed that "bluff and bluster" had been defeated.
The former finance minister added in his tweet that "people of Delhi, who are from all parts of India, have defeated the polarising, divisive and dangerous agenda of the BJP." His post further read, "I salute the people of Delhi who have set an example to other states that will hold their elections in 2021 and 2022." Chidambaram was alluding to the upcoming Bihar assembly elections in August this year and West Bengal assembly polls next year.
In her response to Chidambaram's post on Twitter, Mukherjee sought to know whether the Congress had "outsourced the task of defeating BJP to state parties?" She wondered in her tweet why the party was "gloating over AAP victory rather than being concerned about our drubbing?" If the reply to Congress outsourcing its job of defeating BJP to regional players is 'yes', it "might as well close shop!" her tweet read:
With due respect sir, just want to know- has @INCIndia outsourced the task of defeating BJP to state parties? If not, then why r we gloating over AAP victory rather than being concerned abt our drubbing? And if 'yes', then we (PCCs) might as well close shop! https://t.co/Zw3KJIfsRx

Several Congress leaders have questioned the party's weak-kneed fight in the Delhi polls. Observers have attributed the decision of the Congress leadership to mute its campaign to as a ploy to help AAP. Many Congressmen, however, have expressed their disappointment at the "sacrifice" made by the party to prop up AAP against the BJP.
