Chidambaram attacks government over sedition case against Kanhaiya
New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram has targeted the Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi over the sedition case against Kanhaiya Kumar.
Senior Congress leader and former Home Minister P Chidambaram on Saturday targeted Arvind Kejriwal government of Delhi for allowing a sedition case against Kanhaiya Kumar and some others and accused the Delhi government of the sedition law The understanding is wrong.
Chidambaram tweeted The Delhi government's understanding of the sedition law is nothing less wrong than the Center. "I want to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar and others under Section 124A and 120B of the Indian Penal Code I strongly reject the permission.
In fact, the Delhi government cleared the Delhi Police to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar, the former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union, and two others in a sedition case.
The police had filed a charge sheet against Kumar in this case as well as JNU alumni Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya.
Police said that the accused had taken out a procession on February 9, 2016, during an event at the JNU campus and supported the anti-national slogans allegedly planted there.
