AMMK releases list of candidates for elections in TN
The general secretary of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) T T V Dhinakaran, released the names of his party candidates for the May 19 by-elections in four assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu on Monday. Thiruparankundram, Ottapidaram, Aravakurichi and Sulur are the four assembly constituencies.
In Thiruparankundram bypoll, the AMMK has fielded its Madurai rural district secretary I Mahendran. During 2006-2011, he was a former AIADMK MLA from Usilampatti. For the Sulur by poll, the party has named former AIADMK MP K Sukumar. And in Aravakurichi, the party has fielded its Puratchi Thalaivi Amma Peravai president P H Shahul Hameed.
Before being eliminated Aravakurichi MLA V Senthil Balaji, had left the AMMK and crossed over to the DMK, which has already named him as its candidate for the by poll. In Ottapidaram, the AMMK has retained another eliminated MLA, R Sundararaj, as its candidate.
By polls are necessitated by the deaths of two AIADMK MLAs while Aravakurichi and Ottapidaram became available after elimination of two other AIADMK legislators, in both Thiruparankundram and Sulur.
In the state there are 22 vacant seats. By polls were held in 18 assembly constituencies on April 18 along with Lok Sabha elections.
