Woman goes in for hip replacement surgery in Dubai,dies

DUBAI: An Indian woman died in Dubai after undergoing hip replacement surgery due to complications arising after the procedure at a private hospital in Dubai.

Betty Rita Fernandes (42) was admitted for a two-hour left hip replacement surgery at the Al Zahara Hospital on 9th May. Her husband filed a complaint with The Dubai Health Authority post which a probe has begun on the case.

Rita, mother of two children reportedly had a congenital issue and her hip was slightly displaced at birth.

It was also noted that Rita clearer all her pre-surgery checkups.

During surgery she developed complications and her family was asked for consent for second surgery and that Rita will be moved to the ICU. However, she died in the operating theater, nearly 8 hours after she was first brought in.
