Man attempts to kill wife over extra dowry in Mysore

Mysore: In an incident, a man attempts to murder his wife by hanging her over extra dowry. This crime has come into light at Somnathpur village in Hunsur taluka of Mysore.

The accused identified as Venkatappa, who works as an Assistant Officer at the Child Welfare department in Hunsur. The victim Nagamani (41) is presently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mysore, where her condition is said to be critical.

Venkatappa and Nagamani got married to each other in 1997. The couple lived happily for years, and recently Venkatappa started to harass his wife demanding extra dowry. In this context, the couple had an argument on this month 3rd, and Venkatappa decided to murder her.

With this, he strangled and tried to hang her with saree when she was sleeping. As she began to scream, the neighbours came for her rescue and rushed to the hospital. On recording the statement for the victim, the police arrested the accused and investigating further.
