Warangal: 11,800 to get vaccination in 1st phase

Warangal: An estimated 11,800 frontline health workers will receive the Covid-19 vaccine in the first phase whenever it becomes available. Speaking at a review meeting here on Tuesday, Warangal Urban district Collector Rajeev Gandhi Hanumanthu said that measures are being taken to vaccinate medical and health department doctors and the staff engaged in Covid-19 first. He said that efforts are on to administer the vaccine to everyone in a phased manner.

During a review meeting with health, education, DRDO, DPO, NGOs and district level task force committee members, the collectors gave relevant guidance regarding the execution of the vaccination. The Collector said that 11,800 government, private and health department officials have been identified and will be vaccinated in 130 centres across the city.

All these centres to get a team, each consisting five members he added. In the second phase, the police, municipality, village panchayat, sanitation, persons above the age of 50, persons below the age of 50 suffering from ailments such as cardio, hypertension and diabetes would be vaccinated, the Collector said.

Referring to the ensuing elections to the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC), the Collector told the officials to plan accordingly. He stressed the importance of working in tandem during the vaccination.

He told the officials to make fool proof arrangements at the vaccination centres, PHCs and community halls. The DEO was also told to assign staff as per requirement. The services of Asha workers, Anganwadis, nurses, NGOs, NSS, NCC volunteers will be used during the vaccination, he added. District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) Dr K Lalitha Devi said a separate ward has been earmarked for storing the vaccine.
