Officials asked to implement Energy Conservation Building Code

Vijayawada: Secretary for energy Srikant Nagulapalli asked officials to focus on impactful implementation of Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC) in the State that would help to achieve significant reduction of energy in building sector, provide healthier environment to residents and reduce electricity bills to consumers.

Addressing a State-level webinar on ECBC conducted by Administrative College of India (ASCI) on National Energy Conservation Week-2020 on Wednesday, the secretary said that Andhra Pradesh was one of the few States in India that had issued ECBC GO and included it in building bylaws and incorporated ECBC compliance in online buildings permission system. The government wants to see several buildings in the state comply with ECBC norms. "Impactful implementation along with strong commitment is required to achieve the objective of government," he said.

Stating that the government was putting maximum efforts to promote energy conservation and energy efficiency in the State, the secretary said that every stakeholder should give utmost priority for implementation of ECBC. "In fact, Andhra Pradesh is the one and only State in the country that has issued a GO Rt 89 for setting up energy conservations cells in all government departments which has received great applause at national level.

The State has made amendments buildings rules according to ECBC norms also issued GO Ms No 180 as well. It is also implementing several energy efficiencies programmes in various sectors and has also announced State level energy conservation awards to recognise and encourage the efforts of stakeholders. All the stakeholders are requested to understand the priority of government to develop the energy efficiency sector in the State and needs to act accordingly," he said.
