Tirupati: Dandi March statues to be inaugurated on Aug 15

Tirupati: Commissioner D Haritha said that the ‘Dandi March’ statue, depicting the epochal event of our freedom struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi, put up at MR Palli circle in the city, will be inaugurated on August 15 coinciding with the nation’s Independence Day.

The Commissioner, who along with other officials, visited the circle on Monday to inspect the final works for the formal unveiling of the statue, said that the statue was installed following the ‘Dandi March’ taken up by Mahatma during the Salt Satyagraha, at the busy junction in the city to remind the heroic struggle for independence to the people to rekindle the patriotic spirit particularly among the young generation and recollect the sacrifices of thousands of people to free the country from the British yoke. She said the beautification of important circle and traffic medians at all ‘free lefts’ in the city were also taken up, giving an ethnic and cultural touch. The Commissioner also inspected deck slab works going on Srinivasa Sethu flyover.

She said the last and final phase of the Srinivasa Sethu works, will be over with the fixation of remaining three segments on the flyover at ROB.

Apart from the flyover constructed under the Smart City project, the Commissioner said the corporation has taken up master plan roads, creation of free lefts and also widening of narrow streets to ease traffic congestion in the pilgrim city.
