Punganur incident: Dy CM K Narayanaswamy lauds police department for maintaining law & order

Chittoor: Deputy Chief Minister K Narayanaswamy complemented the police for putting in excellent efforts for maintaining law and order situation during Punganur incident, where several constables were injured.

It may be recalled that police personnel and TDP activists were injured at a clash between them during TDP chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu’s visit to Punganur on July 4. Ranadhir, a constable from Annamayya district lost one eye in the incident.

In this connection, SP Y Rishanth Reddy convened a meeting here on Tuesday at police guest house along with district Collector S Shanmohan and others.

Participating in the meeting, Deputy CM Narayanaswamy said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced Rs 10 lakh from CMRF to the injured constable, Ranadhir. He stated that the police department has no political affiliation and strictly functioning impartially to maintain law and order.

The Deputy CM alleged that former CM Chandrababu Nadu was the sole responsible for the entire disaster of Punganur incident and directed the SP to register cases against all the accused in the incident. He assured that the government would extend all support for the injured constables in Punganur incident.

District Collector S Shanmohan said that he was annoyed over the unfortunate incident in which constable Randhir lost one of his eyes. He said that he was exploring the possibilities for replacing the damaged eye with a new one to Ranadhir.

SP Rishanth Reddy explained the pros and cons of the Punganur incident where more than 60 constables were seriously injured.

He said alreay 60 cases have been registered against the accused and some more accused will be taken into custody shortly.
