World Malaria Day observed in Old City

Charminar: The staff of GHMC-South Zone observed the World Malaria Day by organising various programmes from awareness rallies to holding blood donation camps on Thursday.

They vowed to achieve the objective of making the Old City Malaria by 2030, as part of their contribution to the aim of the Union Government which has targeted the year for making India Malaria free.

The staff numbering about 400 included employees from entomology, sanitation and other wings. They took part in the rally which was organised from Sardar Mahal to Charminar during the morning hours.

Deputy Commissioner (Charminar) P Saralamma said that the entomology wing was able to control the situation in the Charminar area and hoped that the Malaria cases would be completely brought down with the active participation of the staff.

Later, the GHMC staff undertook a bike rally towards Santoshnagar area via Puranapul, where Deputy Commissioner K Alivelu Mangathayaru launched the blood donation camp. Chief Entomologist B Venkatesham explained about the general awareness on mosquitoes and malaria. The rally was flagged off by Dr S M Quadri, Assistant Medical Officer of Health, CMOH.

The programme was attended by AMOH officials, sanitation workers and several other staff, amongst whom 78 staff donated blood at the camp organised at Darusshifa GHMC office.
