Waqf Board members urge CEO to convene meeting

Nampally: Members of Telangana State Waqf Board (TSWB) on Friday submitted a representation to the Board's newly appointed CEO, MA Hameed asking him to convene the board meeting at the earliest.

Advocate Waheed Ahmed, Syed Shah Akbar Nizami, Mirza Anwar Baig, Zakir Hussain Javeed, Malik Mohtesim khan and others in the letter pointed out that the board meeting of the TS Waqf Board was not been regularly convened as per Rule 7 of Waqf Rules 2000.

The last meeting was held on May 2, 2019 and thereafter no meetings took place. They asked the officials to hold the Waqf Board meeting at least once in a month, as important matters of discussion were being put on a back burner and the threat to Waqf's valuable properties was increasing.

The appointments of Mutawallies and constitution of managing committees are also held up and impacting the functioning of Waqf Board as the tenure of most of the Mutawallies and managing committees have already ended.

They further brought to the notice that due to improper functioning of Waqf Board there was unrest in general Muslims that representatives of Waqf Institutions are unable to protect the Waqf Property, which directly affects the image of the Waqf Board.

Since the elections for Assembly as well as Parliament are over, it is necessary to convene the Board meetings. We therefore request CEO to kindly take necessary action to convene Board meeting as early as possible in the larger interest of the society, the letter stated.
