Wakf CEO gives Eidgah panel a cold shoulder

Update: 2019-10-24 01:32 IST

Nampally: The TS Wakf Board CEO, M A Hameed, allegedly avoided meeting a delegation of Gulshanabad Eidgah management from Medak on Wednesday, even though they had fixed an appointment to discuss the encroachment of more than 2 acres of Eidgah land, with the official.

Later, speaking to media persons, they wondered how the Wakf official who recently visited their place preferred to meet the encroachers and could not spare time to meet them to discuss the grave issue.

While holding the copies of AP Gazette dated 2001 to emphasise the importance of the Wakf land in question, the members of delegation alleged that while they were struggling to get back the chunk of land by appearing for hearing at Joint Collector's office, the CEO without any intimation to locals met the other party involved in the dispute.

"The land is under encroachment for more than 7 years and Wakf Board was not cooperating and behaving in an apathetic way. We have been attempting to meet the Chairman and CEO, but today despite our fixed appointment the official made us wait from 2 pm to 4.30 pm, only to inform that he had already left the Haj House for a meeting. What is more important than protecting the Wakf land," wondered, Imtiyaz Mohiuddin, vice president of Eidgah.

The delegation felt that if this state of affairs continues thousands of acres of remaining Wakf land would be encroached. They also held that those who are at the helm have failed to show any keen interest in protecting the Wakf lands.

"We demand the Chairman, if he is seriously interested to stop encroachment, he should completely revamp the official machinery under his disposal by reappointing all the Wakf Inspectors by replacing the existing ones for all the 33 districts and increase the Board's staff and make visit to each and every district of Telangana personally," they noted.
