Nampally: TS Wakf Board Chairman Mohammed Saleem and CEO MA Majeed along with the staff and other department officials held a review meeting at TSWB office in Haj House Nampally on Monday.

The meeting was organized in the light of latest development where a mosque and graveyard in Sangareddy were marked for demolition by local authorities as part of road-widening project, prior to intervention from Wakf Board.

Later briefing mediapersons, the Chairman said that in Sangareddy district, as part of road-widening works, a Masjid along with a graveyard were being leveled and the Wakf Board had to intervene in the issue and it took to task the officials involved. "We also questioned the Collector as to how the Wakf Board was not consulted over the sensitive matter, as it would have led to a precarious situation," he added.

He assured that any place of religious importance which comes under Wakf Board will be protected and any decision would be taken only after thorough consultation with other departments. Responding to questions, he said that other contentious matters like land encroachment at Balapur were being challenged legally in the courts and senior counsels were being engaged.

He also said that several properties were being taken under direct management, as they were let out by under quoting and were below the market price. On the matter of understaffed Wakf Board which was hampering the smooth functioning, he said that about 50 members would be appointed on consolidate basis by following proper procedure.
