Summer camp ends for gurukul students

Ravindra Bharathi: Secretary for social welfare gurukul schools ERS Praveen Kumar has said the department successfully completed 'Summer Samurai,' a summer camp of gurukul students organised to develop their skills and knowledge.

The valedictory function of the summer camp was held here at Ravindra Bharathi on Thursday. Students from various gurukul schools from across the state participated in the event and performed cultural programs.

Speaking on the occasion, Praveen Kumar said the summer camp was held to improve their knowledge and skills required for their bright future. As part of the camp, the students were taught about civil services, martial arts, such as Karate and Kungfu, and ways to beat mental stress, he said. The summer camp, which started with 1,000 students in its first year, has reached to 50,000 this year, he said.

Praveen Kumar said that the camps would enable students understand about various aspects of the society. The cultural programs performed by the gurukul students captivated the audience. 'Jada Kolatam' dance and a play in which Praveen Kumar was interviewed by students enthralled audience. Responding to the suicides of Inter students, he said failure in an exam is not an end of life.

He said he too failed in two subjects in degree, but has become IPS officer with the encouragement of family members and friends. He advised students not to get disillusioned by the failures, but to overcome them with hard work and persistence.
