Student rally against plastic use get good response

Chandrayangutta: GHMC officials and volunteers encouraged the children and teachers to reduce plastic usage in their daily lives, as it harms both the environment and human equally.

The corporation in coordination with NGO Save Foundation organised awareness rallies in whichlarge number of school children from different schools participated.

The initiative of community participation for 'Saaf Hyderabad – Shaandar Hyderabad' under Chandrayangutta (Circle – 8) on Saturday drew good response from different schools. Schools from seven different wards were selected and school children studying there took part in the awareness rally.

Moral Model School (Lalitha Bagh), St Mary's School (Riyasath Nagar), Oxford School and RKS Mission School (Uppuguda), St Mariyam School (Kanchanbagh), Imperial School (Barkas) and Government School (Chandrayangutta), Sri Chaitanya and AVK School (Jangammet) took part in the rallies.

Riyasat Nagar corporator Mirza Saleem Baig, while taking part in the programme organised at St Mary's School, asked the participants to ensure that dry and wet garbage is segregated before handing over to the garbage collectors.

This, he said, would ensure better disposal and help avoid the environmental damage at least to some extent. "It is our responsibility to ensure resolves the problems like environmental pollution," he pointed out.

While N Venu Gopal Deputy Project Officer (Urban Community Development) who supervised the entire programme called upon students and teachers to reduce plastic usage in their daily lives. Save Foundation, CEO, M Krishna asked the students to conserve water, as India is facing huge water crisis currently.

Some of the colony representatives like R N Colony president, Ravi Kumar, School incharges, volunteers of Save Foundation and other concerned citizens took part in the rallies.

It may be mentioned here that GHMC aims at improving the sanitation situation across all 150 wards of the city on a mission mode. It also engaged NGOs to facilitate deployment of Swachhta Ward Action Team (one team member in each ward) in all 150 wards to create general awareness on safe sanitation practices.

To implement the project successfully in all 150 wards, GHMC have appointed Location Specific Officer in each ward and weekly review meetings will be conducted in all zones.
