Ramanthapur water bodies cry for attention

Update: 2019-05-30 00:38 IST

Uppal: Some of the water bodies in Ramanthapur are full of greenery, garbage and hyacinth giving them the looks of forest. Such 'cheruvus' include Ramanathapur Pedda Cheruvu, Chinna Cheruvu. Huts have sprung up near and inside water bodies. Consequently, residents of three colonies adjoining these water bodies are facing untold hardship, like unbearable stink when rain lashes the filth in the water bodies.

Explaining their problems to The Hans India, the residents say that they are falling victims to diseases because of mushrooming of mosquitos. They hit out at the officialdom for their indifference to the prevailing situation although the monsoon season is just two weeks away. Many residents say that they are living in fear, while pointing out that no leader of official is paying any attention to the prevailing problems in these water bodies.

They point out that if the greenery and filth is removed from the water bodies they would surely present a pleasing sight. While referring to Chinna Cheruvu, they state that its condition is worst, as garbage is being dumped by locals living in 'bastis'. People staying in Indiranagar, Nethajinagar adjacent to the Cheruvu are unable to bear the stench caused by piling up garbage, which occupies almost half of the water body, sting of mosquitos, and movement of pigs and dogs.

Local people have appealed to officials to stop dumping of garbage, while pointing out that once rain season starts the condition would become worst and unbearable. They have appealed to local MLA to intervene and free them from the menace of foul smell, mosquitos, pigs and dogs.
