Provide quality education to BC students: Krishnaiah

Secretariat: BC leaders, led by former MLA and national president of BC Welfare Association R Krishnaiah, met Telangana Welfare Minister Koppula Eshwar at Secretariat on Tuesday.

Speaking to media after the meeting, R Krishnaiah said that they appealed to the minister to consider implementing fee re-imbursement scheme for BC students who get seats in premier institutions, such as IIT and IIM. He said that not even a single BC student of the many who take coaching in BC Study Circle for civil services and group exams has cleared the exams.

He urged the state government to provide civil service training to BC students from reputed coaching institutions. While a total of 1,560 BC students applied for stipends under foreign education scheme, only 300 were given stipend, he said.

He demanded the government to provide stipends to all the BC students who have applied for it. He also demanded the state government to start the 119 BC gurukul schools that were announced by the state government before June 1. Krishnaiah urged the state government to hike the scholarships given to BC, SC and ST students from Rs 500 to 2,000 per month.

Krishnaiah said that the minister had assured to consider the demands of BC leaders after discussing with the Chief Minister. The minister also promised to start new gurukul schools from June 1, he said. Gujja Krishna, Neela Venkatesh, Dasu, Suresh, Vemula Ramakrishna, Rajender and Jaipal were among the BC leaders who met the minister.
