Excerpts from an interview:

How did you all form a band?

We are all from the same college VNR VJIET. In our campus, we had a club 'CRESCENDO', where they focused on the talent and skills of the students. We gave auditions to sing in a band and then we eventually started performing in our college. We graduated in 2013 and we all we moved into professions. We realised that we were not happy with what we are doing in life and then we regrouped and focused on our passion – music and formed 'The Deccan Project'.

Why do you specifically concentrate on Telugu songs?

The regional audience is attracted more towards the Telugu and Hindi songs, so we mainly focus on these languages. We are getting a good response from the audience and we would like to continue the same.

Do you feel limited to singing only in Telugu?

No, we never felt that way. If we wish to sing and if the audience also demands us to sing English songs, we also perform them in our events.

How do you all give time to practice?

As we all work during the week, we make time and practice in our shed that we have constructed for our practice session at Khairtabad. If we do not have anyshow during the weekend, then we practice throughout the weekend or otherwise it is just once in a week.

Bands that inspired you.

Most of our covers/compositions are in regional languages like Hindi and Telugu. Our influences range from Rock, Progressive, Funk, Carnatic music to Ilaiyaraja, AR Rahman, Coke Studio, indie bands like Agam, The Raghu Dixit Project, Mother Jane. With such diverse influence, The Deccan Project can be a potion for a myriad of emotions and moods.
