Poorna on cloud nine

• Youngest girl to scale Mount Everest, Asia, in 2014

• Mt Kilimanjaro, Africa in 2016 and Mt Elbrus, Europe in 2017

• Mt Aconcagua, South America, in January 2019

• Carstesz Pyramid, Oceania region(includes countries like Australia, Indonesia, New Zealand and Fiji), in February 2019

• Two remaining peaks are Mt Denali(North America) and Vinson Massif (Antarctica)

Hyderabad: Fresh from her conquest of climbing Scales Carrtensz Pyramid in Indonesia, the girl from Pakala village of Nizamabad is raring to climb the remaining two peaks Mt, Denali (North America) and Vinson Massif(Antarctica).

Speaking to The Hans India, Malavath Poorna said, "Scaling Cartensz Pyramid had a different set of challenges when compared to Himalayan and other ice-capped peaks. This peak is located in dense jungles of Indonesia and getting to the base camp is a big challenge. After reaching the base camp, a lot of rock-climbing skills are needed to get to the summit."

When asked from where she gets courage when she felt low, she said, "Whenever I felt low I remembered the 10 commandments of a mountaineer and recollected the feat of Arunima Sinha, the first female amputee to scale Mount Everest and when she can achieve and why cannot I."

Malavath Poorna is now the youngest girl to scale five peaks across five continents. She has an ambition to conquer the seven peaks in world and more twoare left.Apart from that she wants to become an IPS officer. When asked how she manages both studies and her expeditions, she said she gives importance to both studies and mountaineering."Whenever I get time, I study," she said, addi that Dr RS Praveen Kumar was her role model who encouraged her to choose this flied.

RS Praveen Kumar, Secretary, TSWREIS said she was pursuing her undergraduation from Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institution Society (TSWREIS) for Women at Kamareddy and that she trained at the Rock Climbing School(RCSB),Bhongir, under the guidance of chief instructor Parmesh Kumar Singh.

Admiring Poorna, he also said, "We always believed that she has the spark and she will do wonders in her life". He also said that Poorma has become a role model and a source of inspiration for girls of marginalised communities.
