Patients suffer as govt hospitals lack specialists

Rajendranagar: Government hospitals in Rangareddy Reddy District, especially at Rajendranagar, got a raw deal in the absorption process of specialist doctors into Director of Medical Education (DME) on Monday during the counseling process that was held at the office of the Directorate of Health.

Rajendranagar, with more than 8,00,000 population, has been reeling under shortage of specialist doctors in the State-run hospitals. The people have to turn towards the private city hospitals in case of emergencies and are forced to pay extra bucks to get the proper medications for their near and dear ones.

This, after a repeated representations made to district administration to fill the posts of specialist doctors in the area towards helping people to get better medical facilities in their own area. "Though we have made representations to the government to provide special doctors at the government hospitals especially in areas hospitals around Rajendranagar, no such attempt gets any positive response yet.

Only Basti Dawakhanas with para-medical staff is being run in some of the localities that are not sufficient enough to deal with patients in emergency cases. If the government is sincere towards providing effective medical facilities to the people of Ranga Reddy especially of Rajendranagar than it should appoint special doctors to the hospitals being run in the areas that to with inadequate staff and under lack of special medical facilities," said Mohammed Misbah Uddin, corporator Shastripuram Division.

In the counseling 500 to 600 doctors participated, including some 60 employees who are designated as Andhra cadre by the Telangana authorities. Presently, they are working either under Director of Health (DH) or Vaiya Vidhana Prishad (VVP) from where they are seeking absorption into Director of Medical Education (DME).

The counseling programme lasted till 5 pm and witnessed a huge turnout of the specialist doctors who wish take absorption through availing the opportunity. Out of more than 500 employees, a total of 251 got absorbed into Director of Medical Education.

The counseling was held to absorb the positions in different wings which includes Medicine, Pediatrics, TBCD, DVL, Psychiatry, Ortho, ENT, Opthal, Hospital Admin, Neurology, Cardiology, Biochemestry, Pathology, Microbiology and Community Medicine.

As per the data received from the office of the Director of Health Osmania Medical College 4, Gandhi Medical College 3, KMC 4, Nizamabad 3, Mahboobnagar 1, Siddipet 1, Nalgonda 2, Suryapet 4 and RIMS gets 1 absorption under Department of Medicine.
