Drinking Water Scarcity, GHMC, Kapra, Parched Residents

Kapra: The Sai Nagar of Kapra division is facing severe drinking water crises. The drinking water scarcity has become perennial problem in Sai Nagar where about 10,000 families live.

One can find a minimum of two to a maximum of four water storage drums in front of each house. This is because drinking water is supplied by Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) through water tankers for every eight to ten days.

It may be recalled that the then MLA NVSS Prabhakar was able to get Rs 217 crore funds sanctioned from the Central government for construction of reservoir in Kapra circle. Residents blame officials for lethargic attitude towards completion of the reservoir work.

Kamalamma who has been residing in the colony for 10 years now said irrespective of any season they had to face drinking water scarcity. "Politicians come begging for votes and make false promises of solving the issue.

We would at least have a sigh of relief if water is supplied on alternate days. There is only one borewell which couldn't quench thirst of this huge population here," she adds.

Anjamma, another resident, says, "Almost everyone in the colony has to work to earn their livelihood. But we aren't able to go for our works as we have to wait for tankers. The prices of water drums are drastically increasing because of the huge demand in our colonies," she explains.

GHMC official Krishna said the reservoir works would be completed shortly. "Residents have been asked to apply for tap connections by depositing Rs 1. There is no need for them to rely on middlemen. Our officials will visit every house and sanction the connections," he added.
