Open lands turn dump yards
Malkajgiri: There are a number of open plots in Malkajgiri and surrounding areas that have turned into dump yards as owners do not bother. In a few cases, snakes have been found in these plots. There are also a few water bodies that have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
The onus lies on landowners who need to keep their plots clean and ensure no one dumps waste. Raghu V K, a resident of Malkajgiri, says, "Just building a compound wall is not enough. It is the responsibility of owners to make sure that the people living in nearby houses are not inconvenienced."
T Dasharath, Deputy Commissioner, GHMC-Malkajgiri, says, "We are unable to issue any notice to owners of plots but can only advise. People can come to us with complaints in the Prajavani programme that is held every Monday."
Krishna, a local resident said, "Shrubs grow and multiply quickly and it becomes difficult to clean the debris from plots. These open plots have turned into dump yards."
