One held for stealing gold from neighbour

Moosapet: The Kukatpally police on Wednesday arrested a thief who allegedly stole 29 tolas of gold jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh from a house here on July 23.

Madhapur DCP Venkateswara Rao told the media that Mukund Rao, a native of Srikakulam district and living in Moosapet, committed theft of jewellery from the house of the parents of the complainant, Atla Pavani. She had lodged the complaint suspecting the hand of Rao, who was a neighbour of her parents.

The DCP stated that Rao had not committed any offence earlier and stole the jewels when none was present in the house. He was aware that the house key would be kept in the bathroom. Rao had pledged four tolas jewels for meeting his personal expenditure, the officer said.

The jewellery in Rao's possession would be recovered along with the pledged items and he would produced in court, the official added.
