MMTS sees no impact of Metro Rail services

Hyderabad: Contrary to popular belief that the introduction of the metro rail services to Hi-Tec City would reduce the Hyderabad Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) ridership, in fact the number of passengers has remained the same.

Speaking to The Hans India, Ch Rakesh, Chief Public Relations Officer, South Central Railway (SCR), said, "Even after the introduction of the metro services commuters of MMTS services remain the same around 1.5 lakh per day."

One of the main reason for it is the ticket price. Compared to MMTS prices Metro services prices are very high. For example, a metro ticket costs Rs 45 to travel from Secunderabad to Hi-Tech City whereas MMTS ticket price is just Rs 5 to travel the same distance.

There are a few who migrated from MMTS to metro rail. Harshith Reddy, an employee of BC Coplus Technologies Pvt Ltd, said, "I board the metro rail at Paradise every day. It saves a lot of time and is comfortable."

Ramakrishna Reddy, a HDFC employee said, "In summer travelling in MMTS is not easy where Metro provides AC facility. I travel from LB Nagar to Hi-Tec City and it costs me Rs 130." K Manohar, a regular passenger in MMTS, said, "The metro rail prices are a put-off. I am loyal to MMTS."
