Japan expert throws light into CTO treatment

Hyderabad: One of the biggest names in the treatment of CTO, Dr Kenya Nasu, a renowned interventional cardiologist from Japan, visited Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital as part of a workshop for treatment of complex CTO.

Chronic Total Occlusion is a complex or almost complete blockage of a coronary artery for 30 or more days, which is caused by heavy blockages within the artery causing symptoms of irregular heartbeats, chest pain, nausea, cold sweats and fatigue.

The treatment of CTO usually involves minimally invasive surgery and Percutaneous Coronary Interventions. Dr Nasu and doctors at Aware Gleneagles Global Hospital used advanced techniques like intravascular Ultrasound and Athrectomy device, which are complex procedures requiring sophisticated equipment and clinical skill. Dr Rajeev Garg, Senior Consultant Intervential cardiologist along with other senior cardiologists took part in the workshop.
