Hyderabad: Problems aplenty, residents demand immediate action
Fateh Nagar is a suburb in Hyderabad with many small-scale industries and residential localities including slums. The Fateh Nagar (ward 118) which comes under GHMC Moosapet Circle has a total of 52,770 voters with a mixed population of all communities. The division is plagued with a number of civic issues because of lack basic amenities. Add to this, the recent torrential rains have damaged the roads extensively which need immediate repairs and maintenance. Particularly in areas like Shiv Shanker Colony, the condition has worsened due to water stagnation for days and roads have become pothole-ridden and non-commutable huge craters have sprung up.
The residents of Pipeline Road are suffering from nausea and headache due to the malodorous smell emanating from the nala encompassing the entire locality. Moreover, pools of stagnant waters have turned into mosquito-breeding grounds posing a threat of an outbreak of vector-borne diseases like dengue, malaria and others. Shiva, a resident of Nethaji Nagar, said, "The nala in the locality is emanating horrible smell making the lives of residents uncomfortable because of the stink and mosquito bites. However, he acknowledged that the sewerage system was now better, apart from supply of clean drinking water.
In the 2016 GHMC Elections Satish Babu Pandala from TRS party was elected as the corporator to this division. With some developmental works he was able to impress some of the voters. "In his tenure he was able to resolve some of the issues pertaining to sewerage and drinking water, which I consider drastic development. But much is needed to be done," said Pavan, a resident of Pipeline area.
Seethama, a resident of Fateh Nagar, said "I applied for the double bedroom house in 2016, till date there is no response to it. The officials are not responding to my queries." In Nethaji Nagar, there is an empty space, which sometimes turns into a garbage dumping yard by the GHMC workers. "It is the residents who face the hardships due to the illegal dumping. The dumping area turns into a menace with unhygienic conditions, unbearable foul smell, open defecation and breeding ground for all sorts of insects. It is the responsibility of the GHMC to keep the place clean, but rather they have turned this empty plot into a garbage dumping yard," said Aishwarya, a resident of Nethaji Nagar.
