Hyderabad: Long wait for Balanagar flyover to end by March
Balanagar: Balanagar flyover which missed several deadliness and going on from the last two years picks up pace. The officials of Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) have set themselves a target and confident of completing the works by March end.
The six-lane two-way flyover is being constructed between Balanagar Crossroads and Narsapur Crossroads. Once opened, it will facilitate smooth flow of traffic on the Balanagar main road and motorists can crossover to Narsapur and Fathenagar T junction.
A senior official at HMDA, on condition of anonymity said that the works will be tentatively completed by this March and flyover will be thrown open to the commuters by this Ugadi. The flyover is coming at a cost of Rs 387 crore, of which Rs 265 crore is for the land acquisition and the rest is for the civil works. The length of the fly over is about 1.13km and the width is 24m. The flyover works which should have been completed by March 2020, hit a speed bump due to land acquisition. The delay has affected the regular commuters owing to huge traffic snarls.
"I am taking this route for more than a year. Motorists are feeling the pinch as the construction is in progress. Also, due narrow road, several accidents have been reported from this area. Whenever we take up the issue with officials concerned, the reply we get is that the works would be completed in a month," said S Anil, a commuter.
"We are facing hardship due to the construction of the flyover which is going on for two years. The construction material dumped on the roads is making it difficult to ply from the area. During the peak hours, the situation turns horrible with one km of traffic snarls. At least this year I hope the work gets complete," said Suresh Reddy, another commuter.
