Hyderabad: Indian Nursing Council to go tough on nursing colleges and hospitals

Hyderabad : Hospitals running nursing colleges and encouraging the mobile faculty from now on will have a tough time. The reason is the menace of the same faculty working in multiple colleges in the engineering and medical colleges has also been hitting hard the nursing educational institutions.

Taking serious note of the same the Indian Nursing Council (INC) has come down with a diktat that any teaching faculty found moving from one institution to another more than twice in three months will now get a show-cause notice.

All such faculty members will have to appear before the ethics committee of the INC and tender an explanation. The committee on adhering to due process of hearing can even consider initiating action against the faculty to cancel their registration with the INC.

Similarly, the INC has toughened its stand on the hospitals running the nursing colleges.

Following the reports of nursing students being taken for a raid by the hospital-cum-nursing colleges running entities, it said, retaining the academic certificates and mark memos will be taken seriously.

Similarly, trying to retain the nursing students or nurses binding them either holding back their academic certificates and mark sheets. Besides, getting them to sign unilateral service contracts and bonds will also be considered a serious lapse by the nursing colleges and hospitals.

Terming such practices by the hospital management unethical, the INC said, "If forcible retaining the original certificates of students comes to the notice of the INC, it will be forced to take penal action against such nursing institutions and hospitals," it warned.
