Hyderabad: Huge haul of ganja; three arrested

Hyderabad: The Uppal police on Thursday busted a ganja peddling racket and arrested three persons and seized 100 kg ganja worth Rs 15 lakh from their possession. The accused were identified as M Prakash, M. Satish and Sk. Ismail.

According to police, the accused Ismail is a native of Annavaram in Visakhapatnam and is a habitual offender in AP. Due to his financial problems, he got into the business of smuggling ganja after purchasing it from a local dealer in AP for Rs 1000/ per kg.

After purchasing to avoid the suspicion of police, he would travel through an autorickshaw and pay the auto driver Rs .50,000 for the journey.

All work was going well and as agreed with accused no. 2, Arun Singh (currently absconding), the Ismail brought the banned substance to Hyderabad through the auto and dumped the material at Devender Nagar and informed it to Arun Singh. He then alerted the two other accused to pick it up from the spot and transport it by packing ganja in small sachets, said the police.

The Uppal police intercepted the auto and arrested all three persons under section 8(c) r/w 20 (b) (ii) (B) of NDPS act and remanded them to judicial custody.
