GHMC urged for better facilities

Sainikpuri: The residents of Air Force Officers Co-operative Housing Society (AFOCHS) in Sainikpuri want the GHMC officials to wake up to their civic issues and intervene to resolve them. They also seek better facilities around their locality.

The colony being one of the prime colonies in the twin cities has been facing numerous civic issues for the past several years. The garbage dumping is one of the most important civic issues in the colony as it is a vast colony.

People from different areas dump their garbage here, which not only causes unpleasant smell and mosquito breeding but also resulted in huge stray dog menace in the area. As many as 15 bins have been put up by the officials in this area, which are more utilised by the other colonies than the residents of Housing Society.

The residents complain that the sewage line in the area often breaks up due to movement and parking of heavy vehicles. The repairs to the sewage lines are taken up every 3 months, but in no time the situation returns to status quo as earlier.

Manholes in the colony have got covered because of unscientific laying of roads. Even if the residents try to find the manhole and take up repairs themselves, the GHMC officials object and impose fine for breaking the roads for fixing the leakages.

The colony has a storm water drain that flows from the 5th Avenue area. The outlet of this drain is in Kapra Lake which is blocked due to apartments coming up there.
